On April 23, 2023 Elbert Gordon Reed, 98, went to meet his wife Corrie Mae Collins Reed, his son William Gordon Reed, and his parents Blanche Worthen Reed and Levoy Reed in their eternal rest.
Elbert was born December 19, 1924 in Jackson County Alabama. He was raised during the Great Depression where his family were sharecroppers. In 1943 he married his wife Corrie and enlisted into the Army, where he was assigned to the 88th Chemical Battalion and subsequently to the 77th Artery out of New York. He fought in heavy combat throughout the Pacific theater, island hopping from Guam, the Philippines, and Okinawa.
After the war he moved with his wife to Detroit Michigan where they raised three children. He worked hard to support his family and retired in Alabama and eventually settled down in Virginia.
Elbert is survived by his daughters Diane (Cavin) Nordquist and Beverly Roser, his 6 grandchildren Todd (Riana) Nordquist, Kevin Nordquist, Bryan (Mary) Nordquist, Stefan (Nikki) Reed, Josh (Robin) Roser and Corrie Ann (Terry) Jones and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023 at Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Albertville, Alabama. He will be laid to rest next to his wonderful wife Corrie, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, Alabama following the funeral. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 at the funeral home before the service.
