On Thursday morning, July 11, 2024, Jeffrey Travis “Jeff” Shelby, 57, resident of Lamar, passed away peacefully at his sister’s home in Walnut, MS surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services remembering the life of Mr. Shelby will be at 2 PM Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 2 PM Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at The Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Medlock Cemetery near Ashland.

Mr. Shelby was born January 22, 1967, in Ripley, the son of Glenda Carpenter Shelby of Lamar and the late Douglas Rudolph Shelby, Sr. He received his education in the Sandflat Public School System and was employed with Cooper Trucking as long as his health permitted.

In addition to being a passionate 18-wheeler driver, Mr. Shelby will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting, farming, and all things horses. He had a great love for horses and spent most of his free time messing with them, especially his pride and joy, “Buck”.

In addition to his mother, memories will continue to be shared by three sisters, Valerie Fawell (Joe) of Walnut, Peggy Shelby of Ashland and Pam Skelton of Byhalia, six nieces, two nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews and a very special cousin and friend, Larry Mason.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Doug Shelby, grandparents, Charles Alford and Gussie Wilbanks Shelby, James Travis and Ruby Lee Carpenter and a nephew, Bradley Lane Hopkins.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health for the love, care and concern shown to them and Jeff during his illness.
