Effie Loyce Rogers Thornton, 97, passed away peacefully May 14, 2023, at Superior Health and Rehabilitation Center in Conway, AR.

Funeral Services honoring the life of Mrs. Thornton will be 1 PM Friday May 19, 2023, in the Heritage Chapel of The Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Childers officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until Service Time. Burial will follow in Tiplersville Cemetery.

The last of nine children, Mrs. Thornton was born May 12, 1926, in Tippah County to the late Leandrew Mansfield “Mance” and Fronie Elizabeth Brown Rogers. She was a graduate of Chalybeate High School and was married June 9, 1946, to the late James W. “Jimmy” Thornton. She worked as a bookkeeper with a local Tannery in Bolivar, Tn for a few years but she took most pride in being a wonderful housewife, and homemaker.

A Christian, Mrs. Thornton found pleasure in reading and watching westerns on television. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt who was truly loved by everyone. Mrs. Thornton had a servant’s heart, radiant smile, and genuine love for her Lord and Savior. She was a pleasant soul whose full life was purposely filled and completely devoted to her family and God.

Those left to cherish her memories include three daughters, Betty Gerhart (Wayne), Linda Wright (Jerry), and Nancy Head (Tim), six grandchildren, Adam Gerhart (Angie), Kim Milburn (Bryan), Jeff Wright (Shelby), James Head (Amanda), Bryan Head (Chelsea), and Tyler Head (Felicia), sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
