Edward Ray Plunkett  Edward Ray Plunkett, age 73, of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at NHC in Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Friday, November 4, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Bob Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with John White, Earl Fuqua, Charles Wayne Atchley Sr., John Tanner, Dennis Pulley and Billy Gross Jr. serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Stewart, Eric Pulley, Dillion Hardaway, Paul White, Jeremy Gainous, Ivan Gainous, Dalton Gainous and Charles Wayne Atchley Jr..

The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Thursday and again from 11am until time of service at 1pm Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Plunkett was born November 25, 1948 in Adams, TN to the late John E. and Goldie Mae Garner Plunkett. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, worked in the factory for Peterbilt for many years, and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Plunkett was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Plunkett, Calvin Plunkett, Curtis Plunkett and John Plunkett Jr.; sisters, Marie Shisenhall, Jean D’Orio, Loubell Phelps, Vickie Wrenn and Geneva Tanner.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Lee White Plunkett; son, Mike (Shannon) Plunkett; daughter, Robin (Jim) Duke; grandchildren, Bryanna (Chad) Tate, Brittany (Allen) Strickland, Jilliann Plunkett and Jenna Beth Plunkett; great grandchildren, Kyleigh Tate and Drake Strickland; sisters, Genett Wix (Harold) Harper and Dorothy Ann Plunkett.

Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
