Edward Leon Smith Edward “Leon” Smith, 86 died Monday, April 8, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital after an extended heart illness.

Visitation will be this Sunday from 2-3 pm at The Church at Stone River in Decatur followed by a worship service at the church. A graveside service will be at Roselawn Cemetery.

Leon was married to Linda Greeson Smith for 57 years before she died in 2016 and they lived in Decatur, AL most of their lives. He is the son of Sarah and Clyde Smith who preceded him in death. Leon served in the U.S. Navy as a dental assistant aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. He graduated from Elon College and his career included pharmaceutical sales with Burroughs-Wellcome and Roche. After he retired, he enjoyed working for Lowes serving customers in the hardware aisle. Leon also faithfully served the Lord and his churches at 9th Street Methodist and The Church at Stone River in Decatur. He loved his family and friends well and enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, and helping others in need. Leon served on volunteer boards for the Tennessee Valley Outreach, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Reps Association of the Tennessee Valley, and many Methodist church committees. One of his favorite things was attending the annual Hartselle Camp Meetings each summer to study the Bible, sing, and worship the Lord.

Survivors include two sons, Greg (Debbie) Smith and Brent Smith; grandchildren, Mitchell (Molly) Smith, Emily (Josh) Booker, and Bethany (Aaron) Howard and great-grandchildren Porter Smith, William Smith, and Jack Booker.

Leon was also preceded in death by his siblings Boyd Smith, Glenn Smith, Lyndon Smith, Jack Smith, Barbara Key, and his grandson Mason Smith.

The family appreciates the mercy and blessings from our Father God, and instead of flowers requests memorials be given to the Tennessee Valley Outreach Mission, The Church at Stone River, or the Neighborhood Christian Center all in Decatur, AL.
