Edward Lee Rogers was born on February 8, 1928 in Maryville, Tennessee to Thomas Lee Roy Rogers and Martha Elizabeth Huskey Rogers. Ed grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated from Bearden High School in 1945. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. His first assignment was in Japan as part of the occupation forces under General MacArthur. He met and married Sarah Ellen Davis in 1950 while stationed at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he and Ellen moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he attended Knoxville Business College. Ed was a gifted artist and woodworker who spent his career as an architectural draftsman with Goodstein and Hahn in Knoxville. He was part of the team that designed the Thompson-Boling Arena for the University of Tennessee as well as many other campus residential buildings. Upon his retirement in 1991, he and Ellen moved to Huntsville, Alabama to be near their daughter and her family. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ellen Davis Rogers and his parents, Roy Rogers and Martha Huskey Rogers. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Holmes (David), his grandchildren Elizabeth Moore (Jeff) and Benjamin Holmes (Elise), great-grandchildren Harper Moore and Frances Holmes, his brother Bud Rogers (Janice), sisters-in-law Jean Sheets, Peggy Casey (Jerry), and Sadie Davis, and many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for Country Cottages Assisted Living and Kindred Hospice for the wonderful care Ed received during his final days.
