With humble acceptance of God’s will, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Keith Vandiver, 89, of Russellville, AL. on April 8, 2023 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home. He was a life-long faithful member of The Church of Christ, where he enjoyed leading songs during worship services.
Edward was the youngest of 12 children born to John Henry & Virgie Lou Vandiver of Leighton, AL. on February 11, 1934. He was a graduate of Colbert County High School in Leighton, class of 1953. During his time there, he played baritone in the marching band and was also a member of the basketball team known to his classmates by the nickname “Big Daddy”.
Edward served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked at U.S. Reduction in Russellville for 23 years. He was a loyal Alabama Crimson Tide football fan and loved fishing. Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Katherine Vandiver, and grandson, Chancelor Hunter Vandiver.
Edward is survived by four children; Melanie Vandiver Kilburn, Charlotte Renee Vandiver Hardin, Jeffrey Vandiver, and Gregory Vandiver. Surviving grandchildren are; Brooke Vandiver, Megan Kilburn, Kenzie Kilburn Ridner, Hannah Hardin Castillo, John Vandiver and Draven Vandiver.
The visitation will be 2-4 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Spry Funeral Home in Russellville, AL. with the service beginning at 4 pm. Bro. Alan Watkins of Decatur Church of Christ will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Hopewell Church of Christ Cemetery in Leighton, AL..
