Edward “Glen” Stegall, a business owner and resident of Athens, AL for more than 33 years, died suddenly on April 1, 2024, at the age of 77.
Glen was born in Jackson, TN in 1946 to James M. Stegall and Maxine Stegall (nee Davenport) shortly before the family moved to Memphis, TN. He fondly remembered growing up in their house on Agnes Place in the Annesdale-Snowden neighborhood. After the death of his father, he and his mother moved back to the Jackson, TN area where he graduated from North Side High School before joining the US Marine Corps in 1964.
He was an avid dirt track and sprint car racing fan who had been going to Riverside International Raceway in West Memphis, AR since 1954 when his parents introduced him to racing.
Glen was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-dad, half-brother, and wife (Jeanette Stegall). He is survived by his son, James Stegall, his daughter, Sherry Olive, son-in-law, Scott Cecil, and his granddaughters, Savannah Cuzzort and Samantha Thornton. He had a very extensive extended family and had close relationships with many of his nieces, cousins and cousin-in-laws. He is also survived by his friend of 62 years, Hal Jones (Sally).
The Memorial Service will be at Limestone Chapel in Athens, AL, on 14 April with the Visitation at 2 pm and the service beginning at 3 pm. The majority of his ashes will be spread at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Humbolt, TN on 11 May at noon. The remainder will be spread at Riverside International Speedway at a date to be determined.
