Edward Frederick “Ed” Metzer of Selmer, TN was born on December 14, 1931 In Kurten, Brazos County, Texas and spent his childhood in Bryan, Texas. He was a son of the late William and Gussie Lena Wiese Metzer.
From the day he was born until Monday, February 3, 2014 when he passed away, Ed lived an abundant life straight from his heart. Lovingly called Mr. Ed by many, Bob by some, Dad by a couple, and Popa by two, Ed journeyed through life with great passion and vibrance. Whether he was cooking for the men’s prayer breakfast, listening to gospel music, or spending time with his beloved family and friends, he experienced life to the fullest and impacted every person he met.
Ed was a member of First Christian Church of Selmer and served our country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Al Chymia Shriners Temple in Memphis.He was a salesman and business owner.
Although Ed is no longer with us, pieces of his heart are still there because he so freely shared his own heart. He is proudly survived by his wife Bettye; a son Barry Metzer; a daughter Tami Kennedy and husband Ralph; two grandchildren William Neal Kennedy and Molly Katherine Kennedy, all of Selmer; a brother Harold James Metzer and wife Phyllis of Deer Park, Wasington; a sister Frances Marie Kramer of Sugarland, Texas and many other dear family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Metzer was preceded in death by two brothers, Erwin Ben Metzer, Ernest Will Metzer; a sister, Doris Ann Utecht.
