He then joined his 2 brothers, Bub and Ray, to assist in the Slaughter Chevrolet Company under the guidance of their father, Billy Slaughter. Years later, to continue his duty to the community he worked for the Starkville Water Department as an Accountant until his retirement in 2007.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Walter Slaughter, Sr. and Evelyn Carpenter Slaughter; his brother, Samuel Walter Slaughter, Jr. (Bub); and his son, Terrell Clark Bryan.
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Jeanette Kellum Slaughter: his children, Denise Bryan Howard (Bill), Chip Slaughter, Bob Slaughter (Holley); his brother, Raymond D. Slaughter; his grandchildren, Brooke Bryan Dunavant (Daniel), Taylor Bryan, Dylan Howard, Kolby Howard, Presley Howard, Braxton Slaughter, Sydney Slaughter, Lannah Slaughter, and Parker Slaughter; his great-grandchildren, Rylan Howard and Pierce Dunavant; and his 2 lap dogs, Grace Ann and Jolene.
Ed was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1974, and prior to that First Baptist Church where he first came to know God as his personal Lord and savior. Ed loved working on the land and being outside on his tractor, even as he got older, and was asked not to climb up on the tractor anymore! He welcomed anyone that came into his home, and treated them as family. He was always using his ingenuity in a way that few people could match, and sometimes compared to Inspector Gadget.
PawPaw left us with a legacy of strong family ties. His love, laughter, humility and true kindness will never be forgotten, and We Love Him Best.
