Edward Baker Layne, III, 74, passed away Monday morning, December 2, 2024 at his residence in Pleasant Site. He was born in Fort Worth, TX and was a Government Consultant in Huntsville, AL before retiring to Pleasant Site where he became a prominent cattle farmer in the area. He also retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel serving both active duty and reserve duty.

Services will be Saturday, December 7, 12 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Rev. Bill Crosby officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, December 7, 10-12 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL. Burial will be in Pleasant Site Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Paula Armstrong Layne; son, Christopher Edward Layne (Amy Bates); two granddaughters, Shelby Layne and Maggie Kate Layne; one brother, Michael Layne (Kimberly); one sister, Susan Francen (Michael) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Baker Layne, Jr. and Dorothy Margaret Layne and his in-laws, Fred and Alice Armstrong.

Pallbearers will be Tony Armstrong, Michael Layne, Michael Francen, Roy Patrick, Shannon Cochran, and Rob Hall.
