Lt. Col. Edsel Blackburn, retired, age 87, passed away Friday, July 10th, after a brief illness, at ECM Hospital.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 12th from 2-3 pm at Greenview Funeral Home Chapel, the service will follow at 3 pm in the Chapel, with burial at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence, AL. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Underwood.
Edsel was a native of Bankston, AL and had lived in Florence most of his life. He was a retired Lt. Colonel of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Florence, AL.
Edsel made a career of the military and traveled the world over during his time in the Air Force. He was a member of the 603rd AC&W Squadron. Edsel was a very loving son, brother and uncle to all his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents – Rev. Lindsey M. & Carrie Annie Blackburn; five brothers – Pearson Blackburn, Leon Blackburn, Abia Blackburn, Orris Blackburn, Theal Blackburn and one sister- Gertrude Blackburn Wilson.
He is survived by his three nieces- Diann Blackburn Belue (Lannie) of Athens, Al, Belinda Wilson Butler(Ron) of Nashville, TN and Lindy Blackburn of Florence, AL, six nephews, Dale Blackburn(Sharon) of Florence, AL , Talmadge Wilson (Christine) of Florence, AL, Mark Blackburn of Florence, Al, William Blackburn(Judy) of Florence, AL, Alton Blackburn (Carlene) of Florence, AL and Dennis Blackburn (Regina) of Hartselle, AL. and all their families.
Honorary pallbearers are his great nephews, Dustin Belue, Darrin Belue, Brett Blackburn and Derrick Blackburn.
