Edreth Whatley YatesEdreth Whatley Yates died quietly on August 9, 2019. She was born in Holly Pond Alabama on January 31, 1927. She graduated from Holly Pond high school and went to work at Southern Bell Telephone in Cullman. After marriage, in addition to being a mother and homemaker, she owned and operated Yates Grocery in Town Creek for 20 years.

She worshipped, taught Sunday School and lead women’s groups at First Baptist Church for over 65 years. Her community service included the Town Creek Beautification Committee as well as other civic organizations.

She was an avid reader. She loved and nurtured her boys, daughters-in-law, and her grand and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Yates, her parents DeWitt and Ida Whatley, her brothers Buford Whatley, Quinine Whatley, Harlan Whatley, Bertis Whatley, Buddy Whatley, her sisters Edna Campbell, Nadine Whatley and Jeanette Roden.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in law Glenn and Joy Yates and Johnny and Myra Yates, her grandchildren Andy Yates (Janice), Allen Yates (Tiffany), Jenna Morrow (Drew) and Julie Taylor (Lee) and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Betty Dean Barnett, her brother and sister-in-law James and Annette Yates and sister-in-law Bobbie Whatley.

Funeral service will be Sunday, August 11, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Town Creek.  Public visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service.  With Brother Rich Gilley officiating.  Internment will be at Holly Pond Cemetery, Holly Pond Alabama. at 4:30 pm
