Edna Lazenby Harris, age 91, died peacefully on Thursday, June 27 at Saint Martin’s in the Pines in Birmingham. She was born in Forest Home, Alabama on April 4, 1928 to Sallie and Vandiver Lazenby.
Edna grew up in Forest Home, Alabama and attended Greenville High School where she was Miss Greenville High. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA and finished her college education at the University of Alabama with a BA in Education. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Following graduation, Edna taught second grade in Andalusia and Birmingham. While teaching in Birmingham, she met and married John Robert Harris, Jr in 1954. They were married for 54 years until his death. They raised their three children in Decatur, Alabama. Edna loved to read, play bridge and travel. She also enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid Alabama football fan. She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Atkins and Vandiver Lazenby, her husband John Robert Harris Jr., her sisters Sara Lazenby Richardson, Vandalyn Lazenby Chaplin and Nell Kinney Lazenby. She is survived by her children John Robert Harris III (Kathy) of Tuscaloosa, Sallie Harris Pradat (Bill) of Birmingham and Jewel Harris Quiner of Atlanta. She was also a loving grandmother to Marion Pradat McNider (Coleman), Katherine Lazenby Harris, John Robert Harris IV, Paul Harris Quiner, Sallie Carlson Quiner and great granddaughter, Emerson Jane McNider.
A private family burial will be held in Forest Home, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
