Edna Earle Seaton Duncan passed away at her home, April 14, 2016, peacefully surrounded by her family.
Edna’s funeral was Friday, April 15, 2016, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with burial immediately following at the Duncan Cemetery.
Edna grew up in Waterloo, Alabama. She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1944, where she loved playing basketball. Her father ran the store in McGee town. This store is where she met the love of her life, William B. Duncan. Will came in to buy cheese, saw Edna and he was smitten. Will was 14 years old and Edna was 12. They married April 26, 1945, and would have been married 71 years this year.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Wesson Seaton and Jessee Chalmer Seaton; her brothers, Jessee Chalmer Seaton Jr., and Hubert Seaton; and son, William Byron Duncan and husband, William Barker Duncan.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Jane Ann Magazzu (John) and Willa Kay Godwin (Alex); three grandchildren, Ann Marie Haraway (Tyler), Duncan Radford Godwin (Brooklyn), and Anna Jane Jeffreys (Austin); two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Jeffreys and Harper Haraway; and three nieces, Nancy Leuschner (Dave), Jean Cook (Johnny), and Cherie Rigby.
Edna will be missed by all who knew her. She loved everyone and was always glad to have company. When you were at “Nerlie’s” house, you knew you would be fed.
The family wants to thank Dr. Ricky Irons and his staff for the many years of care, Gentiva Hospice, Kana, and Holly; the wonderful caretakers that cared for her every day and night, Donna Corbett, Glynda Bonner, Katrena Pierce, Jan Kelley, Brenda McKelvey, and Shirley Hensley. A special thank you to Cathy Wesson, who has loved and cared for her for the past four years. She was like another daughter to our mother.
