Edgar L Mitchell – Obituary

Edgar L Mitchell, 92, of Florence, Alabama, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017.  Edgar was a veteran of World War Two. He served with the First Marine Division in The Pacific, having made the invasion of Peleliu Island and Okinawa. He worked at Reynolds Alloys for 35 years and was a graduate of Florence State College. Edgar was a member of the Church of Christ at Sherrod Ave for more than fifty years.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 1-3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Sherrod Ave Church of Christ. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Park. Kenny Barfield will officiate.

Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Louise Wright Mitchell, parents, Robert and Effie Mitchell; sisters, Bessie (Mitchell) Boatwright, Jessie (Mitchell) Mangrum; brother, Robert Mitchell Jr.

He is survived by his sons, Michael E. Mitchell and Cathy, and Daniel I. Mitchell; grandchildren, Allison Knight and Zachary, Matthew Mitchell and Lisa, Jonathan Mitchell and Ashley, Will Mitchell and Cameron; great-granddaughter, Adley Knight; great-grandsons Loden Knight, Eli Mitchell, Bentley Mitchell, and Charles Edgar Mitchell.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Mitchell, Will Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Zach Knight, James Thompson and David Webb.

The family would like to thank all the employees at Ala-Care Hospice that provided such wonderful care for our Dad for the last 6 months.
