Edgar Clark “Eddie” Philpot, Jr, was born Feb. 15, 1957 in Tupelo to Jean and Edgar Philpot and crossed the chilling waters of Jordan and reunited with his Mama and Daddy at 4:15 am Saturday, March 3, 2018 from complications of a “widow-maker” heart attack on Friday morning. One of the great joyful, life -loving souls to journey these parts, Eddie had a big heart and a big laugh. His contagious personality was “caught” by thousands of friends everywhere who loved him as their own family, laughed at his jokes, unconditionally supported him whatever the “hair brained” idea he might come up with on that day and otherwise, were loyal to a fault. Eddie returned that loyalty and mastered better than most the biblical admonition to love God and your neighbor as yourself. Unique in every way, Eddie enjoyed life, was mostly self- employed at everything from carpentry to making furniture to owning “Uncle Eddie’s” Eatery and hangout in Nettleton-a major legacy of his. At the time of his unexpected death, he was a beloved Lee County School Bus Driver and was employed by Family Resource Center stationed at ICC-Tupelo where he was an Information Resource Coordinator. A splendid football player at Shannon High School, he graduated in l975 and attempted, actually tempted, the academic team at Itawamba Community College briefly. A consummate “Hotty Toddy” man, Eddie revered his Ole Miss Rebels and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Eddie’s faith was strong and he always appreciated his teachings at First Baptist-Plantersville and later at Brewer United Methodist Church. Eddie found wonder and joy in the simple things and approached life with the gusto of a hound dog. He was generous beyond measure and beloved by all.
A service celebrating his life will be at HIGH NOON Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Donald Pounders and Bro. Bobby Holland officiating. Visitation will be from 3 PM-7 PM today and from 10 AM-service time Monday all at Holland Funeral Directors, which is honored to be serving their dear friends.
