D.2.8.19 Dr. Rogers.JPGDr. Earl “Mac” McNichol Rogers of Decatur passed away Wednesday February 6, 2019. Visitation for Dr. Rogers will be Saturday, February 9, 2019 from noon to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m. at the church with Reverend Blake Kersey officiating. Dr. Rogers will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery.

Dr. Rogers received Undergraduate and Medical degrees from the University of Mississippi. Spent two years in the U.S. Air Force as a medical officer. Practiced pediatrics in Decatur for 37 years and retired doing locum tenens through 2017. He also provided medical assistance to the Children’s Rehabilitation Services at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham for 30 years.

He had been a member of First Baptist Church Decatur since 1971 where he had been a deacon, active member of the choir, helped with homebound ministry and mission trips. Other than family and church, his favorite hobby was model airplanes.

Dr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Saunders Rogers; brother, David Rogers and sister, Joan Rogers. Children, Keith H. Rogers and his wife, Stacy and Amy K. and her husband, Jim Merk III. Grandchildren, Brayden Rogers, Crawford Merk and Campbell Merk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Affiliate (Pediatric Oncology Fund) at Huntsville Hospital Foundation, 801 Clinton Avenue East, Huntsville, AL 35801 in the name of Dr. Earl McNichol (“Mac”) Rogers.
