Earl Lee Bishop – Obituary

earlEarl Lee Bishop, 67, lost his long battle with a disabling illness as a result of his military service on October 31, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Essie Bishop; brother Marvin Bishop; sisters Nancy Hale and Anna McGuire.

Survivors include wife Margaret Sue Berzett Bishop; sons Joshua Bishop, Jonathan Bishop and wife Hillary; grandchildren Evan, Aaron, and baby Abigail; brother Clarence Bishop and wife Brooke; sisters Celia Cassell, Lois Burnette, Sylvia Rutherford; many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Earl was born in Floyd, VA on December 15, 1946. Staff Sgt. Bishop entered the Army in January 1957 and served two tours in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star and numerous other medals and citations. He was proud of his country and his service to it. Earl never met a stranger, always with a smile and positive thoughts even through his pain.

Visitation will be from 12:00 -2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, at Sardis Springs Baptist Church, with the funeral following. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home will be directing with Rev. Tim Kennum officiating. There will be a private burial at a later date at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.

ln lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Piney Chapel Vol. Fire Dept., Sardis Springs Baptist Church, or the Disabled American Veterans.
