Dustin Riley “Dusty” Grimes, age 40, of Moulton, died Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his residence. His family is planning a celebration of life on New Year’s Eve. Location and time will be announced at a later date. Parkway Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Guestbook available at www.parkwayfunerals.com.

Mr. Grimes was born November 3, 1983, in Decatur to Mickey Grimes and Judy Hanvy Grimes. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Babush Armstrong; and grandparents, G. W. and Dorothy McClure Hanvy, and Addison and Clezell Jones Grimes.

Dusty was a skilled third-generation heavy equipment operator and had a passion for moving dirt. He worked with his father excavating and moving mobile homes early in his career and later, in 2021, opened 3G Excavating, LLC with his wife. Dusty also had a passion for racing. As a child he raced go-carts and even helped build the motors. He was a brilliant mechanic when he wanted to be. In 2004, Dusty fell in love with ATV motocross. He began racing ATVs and got his kids involved as soon as they were old enough. Dusty and his family spent many weekends at countless tracks across the southeast and even as far north as Indiana and as far west as Texas.

A loving and involved son, husband, father, uncle, and friend, Dusty showed his love through actions. He eagerly offered rides and instruction in heavy machinery and racing to anyone interested, regardless of age. His wife and children learned to operate heavy machinery and race under his guidance. Dusty always prioritized having fun, and his infectious smile could light up a room. He was loved by all who met him and he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Armstrong Grimes; son, Drezden Riley Grimes; daughter, Natalie Mae Grimes; parents, Mickey and Judy Hanvy Grimes; father-in-law, Darryl Armstrong; eight nephews/nieces, Daniel Armstrong, Grayson Webster, Gibson Fellows, Caroline Webster, Jackson Webster, Anna Armstrong, Lucy Armstrong, and A. J. Armstrong; and five great-nephews/nieces, Bradlee Baker, Evan Barron, Olivia Webster, Kash Armstrong, and Carter Webster.

“I love you more” – Karen
