Duane Hellebrand passed away at age 60 on November 19, 2023.
Duane was born in Huntsville, Alabama to Bernd and Lavon Hellebrand where he lived for the majority of his life. Duane graduated from North Georgia College where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Duane thoroughly enjoyed his time in Dahlonega and made many lifelong friends there. His first job was in service to his country with the U.S. Army. While in service with the Army, Duane traveled to Texas, Wisconsin, New York, and Grafenwoehr, Germany.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Duane moved back to Alabama and spent the rest of his life working two long term positions at outdoor treatment programs for troubled youth. He helped recruit and train counselors for Three Springs in Paint Rock and The Pinnacle School in Elk River.
Duane had a strong love for his family, friends and the outdoors. A great time for Duane would be going to the beach with his sweetie, Allison, or camping and shooting with his brother and friends. He loved spending time with his family and considered them his greatest treasure, especially his daughter, Gracie.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Bernd and Lavon Hellebrand and his daughter, Gracie Niemeyer. He is survived by his wife, Allison; his brother, Michael (Beth); his nephew, Samuel and niece, Mollye; as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, and his many friends who love him dearly.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m.
