ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement regarding a drug bust made near Highway 72 and I 65 on Thursday, July 7:

“Yesterday afternoon investigators with the police department’s drug unit arrested Leah Charlene Appleton for trafficking methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrest was made on US 72 near I 65. Investigators found 4 plastic bags inside a Fruit Loops box that containing 60.9 grams of methamphetamine.

The street value of the vehicle is approximately $6000.00.Appleton was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. “
