MUSCLE SHOALS – North Alabama Shoals Hospital is launching a new service line and welcoming in a new physician to kickstart the process. Bradley W. Wargo, DO, arrived on site on Monday, April 3, and will begin seeing new patients as part of the new Interventional Pain Management service. Dr. Wargo comes to NASH from Memphis, Tenn., where he ran a successful practice.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Wargo to North Alabama Shoals Hospital and to announce the opening of Shoals Interventional Pain Management,” said North Alabama Shoals Hospital Chief Operating Officer Doug Holzbog. “His comprehensive approach to treatment makes him a valued option for patients needing care in the Shoals area. He will also be a great partner and resource for the area’s current quality providers.”
Prior to serving in the Memphis area, Wargo has also had a successful career in the Midwest. He began his medical career attending undergraduate school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with an emphasis in Neuropsychology and Pre-Medicine in 1993. During his undergraduate education, he worked for two years in the neuropsychology department at the Kansas City Veterans Administration Medical Center.
In 1998, Dr. Wargo graduated from medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. Following medical school, Dr. Wargo received his post-graduate residency training in Pediatrics and Anesthesiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, which he completed in 2002.
Following his residency education, Dr. Wargo completed his Pain Management Fellowship at The University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 2003. Early in his medical career, Dr. Wargo was an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Texas A&M School of Medicine at Scott & White Clinic.
Since leaving academic practice, Dr. Wargo has been practicing anesthesiology, pain management, interventional pain management, and regenerative medicine with a comprehensive evidence-based approach emphasizing holistic and preventive management. Despite leaving academic practice, Dr. Wargo has continued to publish extensively, expanding the knowledge base of anesthesiology, pain management, interventional pain management, and regenerative medicine management (OrthoBiologics). Dr. Wargo serves on the Editorial Boards of two peer-reviewed medical journals, one of which he also serves as a Section Editor.
He has served as the President of both State Societies of The American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) and The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) for the State of Iowa. He has lobbied at both the State levels in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Federal levels in Washington, DC on behalf of patients’ access to high-quality medical care for over 15 years. He is a Past-Chair of the Anesthesiology Certifying Board and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Pain Management Certification Board. He remains a National Board Examiner for Anesthesiology, Pain Management, Interventional Pain Management, and Regenerative Medicine. He has also obtained International Board Certification in Pain Management (FIPP).
“I cannot be more excited to start my practice in the Shoals area,” said Wargo. “My goal is to help patients live a life with as minimal pain possible by treating the underlying causes of diseases and not just treating the symptoms.”
When he is not caring for the needs of the community, he is a loving husband of almost 30 years, with 5 children, one son-in-law, and one grandchild. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing guitar in his free time.
