Doyle Eugene Barkley, known as “Daddy Doyle” to many that knew and loved him, passed away peacefully Saturday July 13, 2024, at Diversicare in Ripely.

Funeral services honoring Mr. Doyle’s life will be at 2 PM Thursday July 18, 2024, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Richie Lockhart officiating and his two sons, Eddie and David sharing personal reflections. Visitation will be from 11 AM until time of service on Thursday July 18, 2024, at Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Falkner.

On May 22, 1933, Mr. Doyle was born at home in Falkner, MS to the late Rufus Ezell and Frankie Lee Graham Barkley. He received his education from Falkner High School, where he met the love of his life, Ruth Warrine Jackson. The two high school sweethearts married on June 24, 1950, and planted their roots in the Falkner Community, raising a family and building a life together. Mr. Doyle was employed with Foot Caress for thirty years before his retirement. After his retirement he never slowed down, as he had a great love for farming. From riding his tractor, to taking care of his cattle, Mr. Doyle was a man who believed in hard work. His love for the land was so great that together, he and Mrs. Warrine started, D and W Nursery. What began as a small green house, turned into owning multiple greenhouses, rooting and growing plants, producing a large crop of Boston ferns, and being a supplier to multiple businesses and landscapers in the North Mississippi Area.

A Christian and member of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mr. Doyle was a family man who led others by example. He had a great passion for the outdoors and found much joy in deer hunting, and fishing. He stood firm to the statement, “the way to a man’s heart is always through his stomach”, as he never turned down good southern cooking. He looked forward to trips to Ryan’s Buffet, where his plate would be stacked high, and always finish a meal with a couple of “ice cream comes” as he would call them. Christmas day was always spent at his home, where he would cook his famous red eye gravy and drop biscuits and play bingo with family. Daddy Doyle was happiest surrounded with good food and even better fellowship. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and his family rang above all. Although we will miss him deeply, we find comfort in knowing today that Mr. Doyle has joined all those who have gone one before him, where together they spend eternity in heaven.

Those left to cherish his memories include two sons, Doyle Edward “Eddie” Barkley and David G. Barkley (Amy), two daughters, Vicki B. Bolden (Billy), and Lisa B. Conely, two sisters, Carolyn B. O’Dell, and Elaine B. Elliott, six grandchildren, Angie Breazeale (Wade), Wesley Bullock, Nathan Barkley (Caytee), Shannon McPherson (Chad), Jacob Barkley, Katie Barkley, seven great grandchildren, Jackson Bullock, Lilly Bullock, Bullock Breazeale, Banks Breazeale, Henry McPherson, Jack McPherson, Emma Barkley, a special friend, Charlotte Allen, and a host of family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is proceeded in death by a son in law, Mitch Conely, and a brother-in-law, Larry O’Dell

Those serving as pallbearers will be Wesley Bullock, Wade Breazeale, Jacob Barkley, Nathan Barkley, Chad McPherson, Chis Elliott, and Kerry Elliott.
