Douglas Rudolph “Doug” Shelby, Jr., 61, resident of Lamar, MS, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at his sister’s home in Walnut following a 2 year illness. Funeral Services remembering the life of Mr. Shelby will be at 2 PM Wednesday, July 26 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Clay Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 2 PM Wednesday, July 26 at The Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Medlock Cemetery near Ashland.
Mr. Shelby was born October 11, 1961 in Ripley, the son of Glenda Carpenter Shelby of Lamar and the late Douglas Rudolph Shelby, Sr. He received his education in the Sandflat Public School System and was employed with Carrier Heating and Air as long as his health permitted.
A member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church, Mr. Shelby will be remembered as a simple, loving, easy-going man who had a passion for raising, caring and eating chicken.
In addition to his mother, memories will continue to be shared by three sisters, Valerie Fawell (Joe) of Walnut, Peggy Shelby of Ashland and Pam Skelton of Byhalia,a brother Jeff Shelby of Lamar, six nieces, two nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Alford and Gussie Wilbanks Shelby, James Travis and Ruby Lee Carpenter and a nephew, Bradley Lane Hopkins.
