Douglas Lynn Bowen – Obituary

Major Douglas Lynn Bowen, Retired US Air Force, 61, died peacefully on Wednesday. Douglas was born on February 8, 1957 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He joined the Air Force in 1980, and was a veteran of 21 years. While active in the Air Force, he worked at NORAD in Colorado Springs, CO. He had a long career as a defense contractor, currently working for Torch Technologies.

In November of 1983, he married his wife of 35 years, Paula. Doug’s favorite place was a family lake cottage on Kerr Lake in southern Virginia. His parents bought the land the year he was born. Douglas and his father built the cottage over a period of 20 years. Doug passed this love of the cottage down to his son, Taylor.
Douglas was an active member for the past 10 years at University Baptist Church and an active member of Gideon’s International.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; his son, Taylor and wife, Theresa; his uncle, Grover “Sonny” Poindexter; his sister-in-law, Beverly Wiley and husband, Chris; and beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eleanor Bowen.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at University Baptist Church. The memorial service will follow at the church. He will be buried at a later date in Selma Memorial Gardens in Selma, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideon’s or University Baptist Church.
