Douglas Henry Stanford, 83, of Athens, AL, passed away on December 7th, 2023. He was born on December 26th, 1939, in Lester, Alabama, to Julius and Clura (Coffman) Stanford.
Mr. Stanford is survived by daughter Virginia Renee’ (Jenny) Stanford Letson (Tim); son Christopher Douglas Stanford (Leisl); grandchildren Travis William Letson, Mari Virginia “MJ” Ferrell (Lee), and Lawrence “Lars” Winston Stanford; great-grandchildren Rylee Virginia Ferrell and Lawson Henry Ferrell; sister Lynell Clem (Deryl); brother Steve Goodin (Betty); and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by father Julius Stanford, who died when he was a baby; Lawrence Goodin, the only father he knew and who raised him as his own, mother Clura Coffman Stanford Goodin; and his beloved wife of 55 years, Virginia Ellen Parsons Stanford.
A private graveside service will be Tuesday, December 12th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Myers Cemetery, with Terry Brown officiating. Burial will be at Myers Cemetery.
Mr. Stanford was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved working with his hands and farming. He was a retired sheet metal worker, Mason, and member of Walnut Grove Community Church.
