Douglas E. Brownÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ÷ÂWÛ  zDouglas E. “Doug” Brown, age 91, died Friday morning July 18, 2014 at Jackson General Hospital.
Mr. Brown was born near Benton, KY and grew up at Paducah, KY, the son of the late William Clyde and Margie Edwards Brown. He graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School in 1941 and graduated from Paducah Junior College in 1943. While in Paducah he was very active in the Broadway Church of Christ where he served as song leader. After college he entered the U. S. Army Air Force and served as a B24 Navigator, stationed at Panama and the Galapagos, Islands
He went to work for Southern Bell Telephone in December 1946 and married Arlene Hoover Brown in 1947 and they made their home in Paducah. They moved to Mayfield in 1956. He worked his entire career with the telephone company, retiring in 1981. He was active in the Lions Club and Boys Scouts. He helped found the Western Kentucky Youth Camp and served on the Board of Directors for many years. The camp was one of his true loves. He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Mayfield and served as a Bible school teacher and elder for many years.
He moved to Memphis in 1981 to make his home near his son Doug, Jr’s family. While in Memphis they worshiped with the Highland Street Church of Christ and he worked in building maintenance.
They moved to Henderson in 2002 and he was a member of the Estes Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene Hoover Brown, four sons; Douglas Brown, Jr. and wife Barbara of St. Louis, MO, Steve Brown of Fort Myers, FL, Michael Brown of Decatur, IL and Jim Brown and wife Susan of Henderson, a sister Betty Moore of Paducah, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Nelson.
Funeral service will be 1 PM Monday at the Northside Church of Christ in Mayfield, KY with Larry McKenzie of Memphis, Roy Sharp of Henderson, and Gary Knuckles of Briansburg, KY officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery near Paducah, KY.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday and Monday from 11:00 AM until funeral time at the Northside Church in Mayfield.
