Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Dorris Clayburn Pierce, age 84 of Cowan. Mrs. Pierce peacefully entered the presence of the Lord Jesus from her while surrounded by her family. Many will remember Mrs. Pierce as a bookkeeper for the City of Cowan. Later, she coordinated the government documents section at the University of the South-DuPont Library in Sewanee. Following her retirement, she worked part-time at the Franklin County Library. Throughout all that time she faithfully served her church, Cowan First Baptist, as a teacher in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and children’s church. She also prepared many meals for those in need. She was the daughter of Horace & Byrdie Deerman Clayburn, both preceding her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Pierce and a brother, Edgar Clayburn. She is survived by her children, Dianne Ansley of Winchester, Kenny Pierce and wife, Paula of Cookeville, TN and Tracy Hearing and husband, Steve of Franklin, TN. She also leaves her grandchildren, Katie Leming and husband, Brandon of Tullahoma, Allison Meador and husband Chris of Hermitage, TN and Joshua Hearing and wife, Chelsea of Smyrna, TN; great-grandchildren, Nelly, Lizzy, Hendrix, Harley and Hayden. The family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home Tuesday June 8, 2021 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home with Rev. L. Z. Johnson officiating. Following the funeral service, Mrs. Pierce will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Watson-North Memorial Park. At the request of Mrs. Pierce, memorial contributions may be made to Cowan First Baptist Church, 316 Cumberland St. W., Cowan, TN 37318-3112.
