At an early age, the family moved to Madison County, where she lived the rest of her life. No stranger to hard work, Wilma grew up in a farming family during the depression era. She was the eldest of nine children, and in addition to working on the farm, she helped take care of her siblings.   Her strong work ethic carried her through a long career that began with her first job at General Shoe.  She soon began a 30-year career at Redstone Arsenal, after which she worked several years at Teledyne Brown Engineering.

Wilma was an active member of West Huntsville Baptist Church for 50 years. She was often found reading and studying her Bible and was a favorite Sunday School teacher of the Ladies Sunday School Class. She loved her church and the close-knit, caring church family that always embraced her until her death.

Working in her yard was one of Wilma’s favorite past times.  She had a showcase backyard full of beautiful flowers and shrubs she nurtured for those who visited her to see.  In addition, Wilma was a talented seamstress and she crocheted with expertise. She also loved to travel and was always ready for the next adventure.

She is survived by her sisters Mary League, Sue Glover (Bill) and Carol Arthur (Wayne); 18 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Legacy Center Fund at West Huntsville Baptist Church.
