Reynolds Funeral Home announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Virginia Melvin of Chattanooga, TN  and formerly of Decatur, Alabama.

Dorothy Virginia Melvin, 89, was born on November 26, 1934, in Trinity, Alabama. She departed this life on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at NHC Healthcare (Parkwood) Chattanooga TN.

Dorothy loved working out in her yard. She loved flowers, especially roses, and was a good cook for her family and friends. She retired from Memorial Hospital in EVS, then became a Foster Parent through DHS, and fostered a total of 12 children. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age, at Love Chapel in Trinity, Alabama. She was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist, having joined under the late Pastor Paul A. McDaniel. She served faithfully in the Usher’s Ministry and Club #1 Ministry.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, William Sales and mother, Naomi Coffey Sales; husband, Joshua Melvin; brothers, David Sales, Lincoln Sales, George Sales, Joe Sales, and Paul Sales; sisters, Mae Frances Parks and Louise Simmons.

Dorothy will be forever missed by her children, Gayle (Lawrence) Conley, and Janice Mitchell of Chattanooga TN, Argyle Calvin Hall, Chattanooga, Billy Hall, Whiteville TN. Sisters Mary Jo Phillips, Decatur, AL, Clara Smith, Hillsboro, AL, and Linda Ellison, Houston, TX; brothers, Charles Sales, Decatur, AL, and Marvin Sales, Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Cory Mitchell (caregiver), Brandon Conley, Chattanooga TN, Martrell Hall, Chicago, Ill., and Jeremy (British) Conley, Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren, Micah, Madison, and Cameron; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; a dear friend Mary Lucas.

Public viewing will be held 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, at Second MB Church, 2305 East Third Street, followed by the funeral service at noon. Interment: Lakewood Memory Gardens EAST
