Dorothy Thornton Kaylor – Obituary

Dorothy Thornton Kaylor, 93, of Rogersville died Sunday, January 1, 2017, at her residence.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 7, 2017, 2-4 PM at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 8, 2017, 1 PM at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pat Driscal officiating. Burial will follow at Civitan Cemetery. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
Mrs. Kaylor attended Montevallo College. She also attended First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher. Her hobbies included being a pianist, artist (painter), making friends, and travelling.
Mrs. Kaylor was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hanson Kaylor, Sr.; parents, Bayless Reynolds and Naomi Bane Easter Thornton; two sisters, Lorraine Johnson and Ann McCluskey; two sons, Stephen Kaylor and Hugh Hanson Kaylor, Jr.; granddaughter, Bethany Kaylor.
Mrs. Kaylor is survived by her daughter, Jane Kaylor Lasseter (Rick); son, Phillip T. Kaylor (Donna); brother, Bayless Thornton (Carolyn); grandchildren, Stephen Kaylor (Anna), Anna Goldman (Andrew), and Brittany Kaylor; great-grandchildren, Naomi Kaylor, Nathan Goldman, and Benjamin Goldman; twenty-six nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Nash, David Prosser, Reynolds Thornton, Austin Hicks, Dean Swanson, Josh Driscall, and Don Nance. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Weathers, Larry Snoddy, Mike Cosby, Danny Springer, Roy Williams, Jesse Thompson, Jeff Godsey, Billy Ray Cantrell, Gary Matheny, and Morris Bramlett.
A poem written by her daughter: ‘Resurrected’, It is here where I finally succumb to a rebirth and let you weep for me and take your love a hundred steps to my coffin allowing tears to wash away death and give me to Jesus who carries me to alyssum released, resurrected and we sing.
