Dorothy S. Smothers
January 13, 1918 – April 18, 2019

Dot Smothers, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, went home to heaven on April 18, 2019. Dot was a lifelong Christian and a member of the Kansas, Alabama United Methodist Church except for the last several years when she became a member of Grace Point at Mount Olive United Methodist Church. Dot loved to sing, pray and read the Bible. She led singing for many years at the Kansas Methodist Church. She was considered a great intercessor by all of her friends and relatives. She loved to study the Bible and often quoted favorite verses. Dot loved her pets and all cats and dogs immediately took to her and loved her. She was a hard worker all her life and helped many people through her long career at Winfield Nursing Home.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, followed by an 11:30 a.m. graveside service at Walker Memory Gardens. Scott Smyth will officiate.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents-Mamie A. Sparks and Stephen G. Sparks; her brother-Albert Sparks; her two sisters-Johnnie L. Gillespie and Frances Cheatham; her son-in-law-Donald R. Harbin; her grandson-Geoff Harbin and her great grandson-Dillon Harbin.

She is survived by her two daughters whom she cherished and loved unconditionally all of her life-Vicki S. Harbin and Sheree J. Smothers both of Gardendale; her loving grandson-Stephen T. Harbin (Suzanne) of Trussville; four beautiful great granddaughters-Shelbi C. Harbin and Skylar G. Harbin of Gardendale, Payton M. Harbin and Katherine E. Harbin of Trussville and niece-Cathy Basar (Ken); great niece-Camellia Cash Williams (Corey); great-great niece-Kayla Rose Williams and great-great nephew-Kyle James Williams all of Brownstown Charter Township, MI.

She leaves behind many cherished friends who found her to be a blessing to their lives.
