Dorothy Ray “Dot” Hunter – Obituary

The funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Ray “Dot” Hunter, age 90 of Daviston, will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Christian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hunter passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Clay County Hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and had worked for Russell Mills. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, yardwork and being outdoors. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church.

She is survived by three sons: Joe Ray (Charlotte) of the Mountain Community, John Wayne McCain (Pat) of Roanoke and Owen McCain of Hattiesburg, MS; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her parents: Ernest Eugene Ray and Odessa Jett Ray; her two husbands: John Winford McCain and Nelson Hunter; one sister, Jettie Ruth Alford and two brothers: J.L. Ray and Pete Ray.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 6, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of arrangements.
