Dorothy R Kennedy Born in 1926 in Warrenton, Alabama, Dorothy R Kennedy received her undergraduate degree in English at Jacksonville State University and Master of Science degree in library media from Alabama A&M University.
She taught high school English, Biology and World History. She served as the Guntersville High School Librarian. Additionally, she was also the Assistant Librarian at Snead State Junior College. She touched so many students, teachers and friends through the years.
She served as a charter member of the Guntersville Museum and Cultural Center Commission, as Chairperson of the Commission. Mrs. Kennedy was also a charter member of the Lake City Ambassadors, a group who served as hostesses for the Chamber of Commerce. She was also an original member of the Guntersville Historical Society.
In addition, Mrs. Kennedy became a published author of a novel at the age of 92. She has an impressive portfolio of poetry, which earned her numerous awards.
Mrs. Kennedy is the widow of Cranston N Kennedy. She was survived by two daughters, Debbie Newman (Vann) and Valerie Pailloz (Tom). She lost her oldest beloved daughter, Julie Shultz, to a battle to ALS, She was also survived by four grandchildren, Nathan Shultz, Abbie Parker (Daniel), Ashley Newman (Todd) and Hillary Wilkerson (Jeff). Mrs. Kennedy was also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Braden Shultz, Marlee Grace Shultz, Harrison Parker, Cooper Parker, Avery Parker, Olivia Parker, Bella and Emma Seay and Greer and Ansley Wilkerson.
Mrs. Kennedy was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church. She passed away at the grand age of 98.
In lieu of flowers, bequest can be sent to the ALS Foundation.
