Dorothy Mae Claude, age 93, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by family.
Her body will lie in state on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, and the family will receive friends for a visitation from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Hunter Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy was born on July 11, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Moses Harris and the late Annie Lee Booker Harris. She married the love of her life, Andrew Claude, Sr., on April 15, 1951; he preceded her in death on July 16, 2017. Dorothy dedicated over twenty years as a nursing home technician and generously served as a foster mother for many years. She was a devout member and Mother of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, faithfully serving and demonstrating her love for God.
Dorothy took pleasure in canning, cooking, and baking, ensuring there was always a delightful dessert in her home. She possessed remarkable skills as a seamstress, crafting her own drapes and bedspreads. In her leisure time, she delighted in watching her favorite television shows, Family Feud, and WWE SmackDown. However, her greatest joy was found in the company of her children, grandchildren, and beloved great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy (Ronald) Rice of North Carolina, Judy (Alvin) Anderson of Columbia, TN, Timmy “Rico” (Paula) Claude of Florida, Michelle (Waleed) Claude of Florida, daughter in law, Faye Claude of Columbia, TN, dedicated friends, Ollie McKinney and Keybra Martin, fifteen grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Claude, Jr., and siblings, Houston Harris, Ada Jones, Charlie Harris, William Harris, Isom Webster, Sr., Freddie Lee Harris, and Moses Harris, Sr.
