Born November 19, 1929 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Bennett Voss, Sr. and the late Carolyn Ophelia Johnson Voss Throneberry. She married William Donald Wilkes who preceded her death September 20, 2005. Family was Dot’s pride and joy. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to get involved and do their best; and she would be there supporting them, attending sporting events, dance recitals, and numerous other activities. One of the greatest joys of her life was accompanying her granddaughter, Heather Wilkes Pearson, to countless horseback riding lessons and other equestrian events throughout Heather’s childhood and adolescence. For many years, she served as Room Mother and volunteered as basketball trip chaperone and class trip chaperone. A past Culleoka PTA President, she was instrumental in starting the original first-aid clinic at the school and served as its first-aid instructor.
She was receptionist for Dr. Ambrose M. Langa for several years and had formerly worked as a nurse’s aide, substitute teacher, and receptionist for Lewisburg Community Hospital. Very active in community affairs, Mrs. Wilkes was a Special Judge and Registrar with the Maury County Election Commission in the Campbell Station Community. She was an active volunteer with The American Red Cross, former volunteer Girl Scout leader, and a loyal member of the Bridle & Saddle Club of Lynnville. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
