D.9.6.24 Dorothy Morgan.jpg Dorothy Louise “Dot” Morgan, 89 years of age and of Decatur, Alabama, was taken unto her Savior on September 3, 2024. She was the only daughter of Hobert C. Staggs and Mary Bell Wilbanks Staggs, and the little sister to three brothers, John W. Staggs, Albert C. Staggs, and Rueben H. Staggs. Being the only sister to three brothers, Dot learned her independent spirit and strength. She was the baby of the family, born in Florence, Alabama on March 6, 1935. She was a bright sprite in their family, full of spunk and energy. Her parents and brothers have preceded her in passing.

Dot found her lifelong soulmate while working in Florence, Alabama. She walked the aisle with James Lewis Morgan of Wayne County, Tennessee. Over the four decades of marriage, James and Dot built a beautiful Christ-centered life. They were active members of First Free Will Baptist Church in Florence where they served in many mission capacities. In her later years, she missed being able to attend church, but the family is blessed with many handwritten sermon notes from where she watched church programs on TV each Sunday. As sweethearts, there are vivid memories of James and Dot dancing in their living room to their favorite song, Floyd Cramer’s “Last Dance.” They now are dancing in gold dust as James preceded Dot in passing March 30, 2001.

After having been raised with three brothers, Dot was graced with three daughters, Nancy Helen Thomason, Angela Diane Edney (Leslie), and Jamie Morgan Wells (Steven). As a mother of three girls, Dot learned patience, priss, and poise. She raised strong beautiful women whom she loved ‘a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.’ She was preceded in death by her eldest girl, Nancy Helen Thomason.

Mrs. Morgan was blessed with seven grandchildren, Payton Peavey (Ronnie), James William Brown (Shellie Harden), Andrea Edney Grigg, William Landon Crunk, Lindsay Rose Edney who preceded her grandmother in death, Chandler Wells, and Garrett Wells. She was known and loved as their “Memaw.” These grandchildren brought more love into life with Dot’s eleven great-grandchildren, Morgan Parcus (Logan Byers), Brayden Parcus (Bree), Ty Brown (Chelsea), Baylee Brown (Chris Baker), Riley Grigg, Anniston Grigg, Ryan Peavey, Thomas Peavey, Nashea’ Peavey, Cord Parcus, and Victoria Pentecost. Mrs. Morgan also had nine great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Morgan enjoyed her many nieces and nephews, and she had great neighborhood friends. She particularly loved pets, and her cat “Grace” was her favorite furry friend. Dot was a great cook, loved her coffee, and could grow a mean tomato. She had a green thumb with flowers. She enjoyed collecting Thomas Kincaide villages and artwork, enjoyed puzzles, and when they were all the rage, she had every Beanie Baby she could get her hands on. Collecting these with her children and grands brought her joy.

Roselawn Funeral Home has seen to Mrs. Morgan’s arrangements, and a graveside service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence, Alabama. Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations to the Community Action Partnership, NARCOG, Morgan County Humane Society, or Dementia Society of America.
