Dorothy Lee Smithson Underwood passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 21, 2017 at the age of 78, 9 days away from her 79th birthday.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, AL. Burial will follow in Tuscumbia Oakwood Cemetery.
Dorothy married Roy Allen Underwood on December 22, 1956 and they moved to Houston, TX where they lived and raised their four children. She was born in Sheffield, Alabama on January 30, 1938. She will be remembered as a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and an incredible mother to her four devoted children. We had an incredible childhood growing up in Texas, but our most fond memories were coming home to Alabama visiting family. She was an executive assistant with Coca-Cola Foods, Monument Energy, law firms, and mortgage companies. She was so talented and fearless in whatever she did and loved adventure. She was a master gardener of Montgomery, TX and volunteered for several Family Outreach programs. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children all of the Houston area: Dwayne Dean Underwood, Dianna L. Field, Roxane “Roxie” Underwood-Woodall and her husband Bill, and Kristine Brown and her husband Charlie, granddaughters Sara Field and Victoria Field, and sister-in-law Kathy Smithson. She was predeceased by her father and mother Willie D. and Bammie Lee Smithson, brothers Billy Joe Smithson and Bobby Louis Smithson; sister Mary June Johnson; husband Roy Underwood, and nephew William N. Hopkins.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Marilyn Smith, Marsha Itiven, and Kenisha Horne for the love and care they provided for our mother. She was so blessed to be able to live out her final years at home
