Dorothy Jo Michael, age 82, died peacefully on August 7,2016. She was affectionately known as Mom and Mama Jo by her family and friends. Mrs. Michael was born June 7, 1934 in Allensville, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles and Anna Coleman.
In addition to raising her five children, Mrs. Michael thoroughly enjoyed athletics and the outdoors. She played tennis for leisure and competitively throughout her life and volunteered with Huntsville Garden Club and church groups. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Michael graduated from Austin Peay University where she met and later married the love of her life Coach James E. (Jim) Michael. They were blessed to spend 50 wonderful years together preceding Mr. Michael moving to Heaven in 2004.
Mrs. Michael was often heard sharing stories of her five sons: Bill Michael (wife, Becky) of Birmingham, AL, Randy Michael (wife, Sandye) of Murfreesboro, TN, Tom Michael (wife, Tracy M.) of Tallahassee, FL, Barry Michael (wife, Tracy B.) of Huntsville, AL, and Jimmy Michael, (wife, Laura S.) of Fayetteville, NC. She is also survived by her loving sister, Georgia Ann (DD) Kimbley (husband, George) of Blount, South Dakota and was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, inlaws, and friends.
Mrs. Michael’s life will be celebrated at a memorial to be held at Berryhill Funeral Home on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.
