Dorothy Jean Thigpen , age 89 of Killen, AL passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at NAMC after a sudden illness. She was a native of Lauderdale Co, AL, a homemaker, and a member of Lexington Church of Christ. She was a wonderful soul who worked her entire life to raise a family and work hard to provide for her husband and three girls. She picked cotton, chopped cotton, raised strawberries, ironed for people, cleaned houses, and babysat for years. She sewed all her own clothes and was known for her excellent southern cooking and fried chocolate pies and homemade cat-head biscuits. She loved sitting on her front porch, shelling peas with her grandkids during their summer visits, orange pineapple ice cream at Trowbridge’s, Preston’s, and her husband of 57 years, Alabama football, and bingo at her “new” home at Cedar View Assisted Living. She adored sleeping at the end of her days in “Phil’s Chair”. She never let anything go to waste, never gave up, and we will miss her forever. Funeral Services will be on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 3:00 pm. Danny Pettus and Brian Jarrett will be officiating. Burial will follow in Pettus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Lexington Church of Christ.
