Dorothy H. Cresap, age 95, of Gallatin, passed away Nov. 3, 2012. She was born in Gallatin in Nov. 1916, to the late Leslie Dayton and Nellie Hunter Hix. She grew up in Gallatin, attended Central High School (1934) and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Library Science in 1940. She worked for the Joint University Libraries in Nashville, then moved to Florence, Ala. with her late husband, Dr. Bernarr Cresap. Upon his retirement, they returned to Gallatin, where she was active in community affairs including the Church of Our Savior (Episcopal), Daughters of the King, the Sumner County and Tennessee Historical Societies, the DAR, the UDC, the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and the Sumner County Archives. She was made an honorary Tennessee Colonel by the Governor. She enjoyed genealogy and gardening. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Sidney Hix; and daughter, Nancy Cresap. She is survived by one son, Michael and wife, Elizabeth, Cresap; and one first cousin, Jane Hix Thomson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Church of Our Savior in Gallatin, Tenn. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., the service at 2 p.m. and reception following. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be considered for the Church of Our Savior, 704 Hartsville Pk. Gallatin, TN. 37066. Phillips-Robinson Funderal Home, 262-3312.
