Dorothy Ealy McCord, a vibrant and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on September 11, 1936, in Pulaski, Tennessee, Dorothy’s life was one of deep connection to family, community, and a zest for living. She was a proud graduate of Giles County High School and continued her education at Martin Methodist College. These formative years grounded her in faith, kindness, and service, qualities that she carried with her throughout her life.
In her early adult years, Dorothy moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she embraced city life with energy and enthusiasm. She thrived in her work for the Azby Fund, a nonprofit family foundation that allowed her to stay deeply involved in the city’s many activities. Her mornings were often spent at the Ochsner Fitness Center, where she formed lasting friendships with fellow workout enthusiasts. Dorothy was always on the go, living life to the fullest.
In 2020, Dorothy relocated to Goodlettsville, Tennessee, to be near family. She quickly became involved in her new community. She embraced the local YMCA, the Goodlettsville Line Dance group, and the Newcomer’s & Community Club of Sumner County, forming new bonds and enriching the lives of those around her. Dorothy had an infectious joy for life, and her positive energy left a lasting impression wherever she went.
Dorothy’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, including her son Mike McCord (Nancy), daughter Valerie Thomason (Richard), granddaughter Allie (Phil), grandson Caspar, and great-grandchildren Henry and Hadley. She was preceded in death by her father, William Ealy; mother, Elizabeth Ealy; and brother, Max Ealy.
A brief graveside service to honor Dorothy’s life will be held at 11:00am on March 22, 2025 at Maplewood Cemetery.
