Doris “Sue” Brantley Nelson was born in Candler County Georgia November 2, 1938, and passed away in Huntsville, Alabama on October 21, 2023, at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Julius Nelson, and brother M. L. Brantley.
She is survived by her daughter, Andria Gunn (David); siblings, Kay Moseley (Bill), James “Buddy” Brantley (Allette), Brenda Cannon (Ellis), Janelle Thompson (George), and Stanley Brantley (Sandy); sister-in-law, Debra Brantley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
After meeting her husband, Julius, in Savannah, Georgia they married July 12, 1957, and moved to the Huntsville area where she began a carrier as an Executive Secretary for NASA. She excelled in her duties and was held in the highest esteem by her colleagues. In her spare time and after retirement she enjoyed reading books of all kinds, traveling and camping with her husband and family.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 23 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jessie Banks officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, Orlan Nelson, Wayne Owen, Roger Nelson, John Battles, Tony Carlisle, Ronnie Limbaugh, Dennis Limbaugh, and Dale Roberts.
