Doris Stewart Terry – Obituary

Doris Stewart Terry, 87, of Town Creek, Alabama, died Aug. 5, 2014, at 7056 Co. Rd. 236. She was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Lawrence County, Alabama. She was employed with the Lawrence County Board of Education as a teacher. She attended school for 17 years.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Avon Terry, Town Creek, Alabama, and Norma Stewart, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by husband, Rubert Terry, son, Mark Alan Terry, father, John Stewart, mother, Grace Henderson Stewart, sister, Ola Reed, and brothers, Junior Stewart and Harold Stewart.

Mrs. Terry was a member of Okalona Baptist Church.

Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. today at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Providence Cemetery. Brother Terry Settles is officiating. 

Pallbearers will be Hollis Stewart, Hershel Landers, Wayne Witt, Steve Harrison, Larry Hurst, and Neal Muchler.

Mrs. Terry taught in Lawrence County for many years, influencing and loving hundreds of young children who in turn cherish memories of wonderful times in her classroom. She also served God in her church teaching Sunday school and GA’s for many years. She was totally devoted and dearly loved those in her family, who preceded in her death, especially her son, Mark. Her kindness and expression of love to her friends and neighbors will be greatly missed.
