Doris Sheffield WhittenDoris Sheffield Whitten, age 94, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

She was born on April 26, 1925, in McNairy County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Elijah Boss and Malisa Nola Davidson Sheffield. She attended school at McNairy and later married W.O. Whitten. They made their home in McNairy before moving to Henderson. Mr. Whitten worked on the farm and in real estate until his death in 1974. She made her home on Barham Avenue in Henderson until she moved to Heritage Towers in 2000. Mrs. Whitten enjoyed watching the University of Tennessee, the University of Memphis and Memphis Grizzlies basketball.

Mrs. Whitten is survived by several nieces and nephews, which include Doris Knott and Jeannie Robinson to whom she was very close.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by five sisters, Willie Criss, Duell Criss, Lorine Cheshier, Mary Lee Wooley, and Mandy Sheffield; and seven brothers, Amo, Millard, Avon, E.B., H.C., Elmo, and Everett Sheffield.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 18, 2019, at 11 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Shane Connor officiating.

Burial will follow in the Chester County Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue on Monday, November 18, 2019, from 9 AM until 11 AM.
