Doris Jean Palmer, 82, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born on July 4, 1941, to Grady Stanford and Willie Pearce Stanford. Jean in her younger years enjoyed camping and skiing with her three children. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and caretaker. Throughout her life, Jean’s true passion was taking care of children. Her home was a haven of warmth and comfort leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of the little ones she cared for.
Jean’s greatest joy came from being a grandmother. Her unwavering support and presence were unconditional. While her health allowed, Jean was a member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo. She enjoyed listening to gospel and bluegrass music.
Jean leaves behind her two sons, Tony Palmer and his wife, Vicki, of Saltillo, and Trevor Palmer and his wife, Heather, of Blue Springs; nine grandchildren, Christopher Palmer (Angela), Chelsea Butler (Jeremy), Jacob Christian (Hannah), Kyle Palmer (Olivia), William Palmer (Kasey), Meg Zuniga (Edgar), Shey Washburn (Luke), Hunter Riley (Erika), and Houston McCoy (Rachel); two sisters, Marie Lackey, and Joyce Snow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Deborah McCoy; one brother, Harold Stanford; and two sisters, Sue Majors and Mae Boswell.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Robert McCoy officiating. Private graveside services will follow at Pearce Chapel Cemetery in Smithville.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Palmer, William Palmer, Brad Lackey, Hunter Riley, Houston McCoy, and Jacob Christian.
