Doris Jean Leachman, 86, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on March 20, 2025 in the presence of her family.
She fought a four year battle with multiple myeloma.
Doris was born on May 26, 1938 in Huntsville, Alabama to Wilburn and Cora Barnard. She was born near the Tennessee River and spent her entire life in South Huntsville. She graduated from Butler High School in 1956.
Doris raised four children of her own while a mother and grandmother to many more. She never met a stranger, was a friend to all, was full of spunk, and quick to offer help to anyone who needed it. Doris enjoyed having a good time and was very playful, particularly with her grandchildren. She was famous for her cornbread dressing, often requested by her family during the holidays. Her grandchildren all loved getting to stay the night at “Mamaw’s house.” She was beloved by her family and friends.
Doris was a hard worker throughout her life. She enjoyed working as a secretary, in retail, and as a nanny.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Wilburn and Cora Barnard, her sister Wilma, and her beloved pets Cookie and Molly.
She is survived by her four children: Karen Allison (Peter), Douglas Leachman (Esther), Christi Jean Leachman, and Kim Sanderson (Eric); grandchildren Sherye Letson (Billy), Allen Leachman, Christina Stewart (Justin), Lauren Allison, Christopher Allison, Lydia Jean Allison, Joshua Roberts, Ryan Sanderson, Emily Sanderson, Sarah Kate Sanderson; great-grandchildren Dylan Brantley, Brayden Letson, Camden Letson, Lucas Stewart, and Bryson Stewart; her dog Bruno and many other friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 PM Monday, March 24, 2025. Funeral services will be at 4 PM.
Donations may be made in her honor to Clearview Cancer Institute.
