Doris Griggs, 87, passed away early Friday, June 7, 2024, in Lexington. Mrs. Griggs was born in Henderson County on February 7, 1937, to the late Lydie Reeves and Beatrice Park Reeves. She was the widow of Harold Griggs, and they were married 63 years prior to his death in 2016. Mrs. Griggs was an employee of Salant and Salant for several years, but worked alongside her husband after they purchased the Big Star grocery store. She is survived by her son, Jeff Griggs (Paige), and daughter, Pam Herndon (Rex); three grandchildren: Mandy Griggs Gooch (Mark), Dallas Griggs (Holly), and Misty Griggs Sharp (Ben); four great grandchildren: Sam Powell, Toni Powell, River Sharp, and Canyon Sharp; and one great-great grandchild, Landon Powell. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by brother Joe Reeves and sister Janice Bradfield.
Mrs. Griggs was a faithful member of Broad Street Church of Christ. Doris and Harold loved going to St. Louis Cardinals ballgames and their trips to South Dakota every year. The Griggs were noted for their annual bird suppers. Doris did all the cooking for the hundreds who attended.
The family will begin receiving guests on Sunday at Pafford Funeral Home, 11:00 AM-7:00 PM Sunday, June 9, and on Monday, 9:00-11:00. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 10, in the Chapel of Pafford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Christian Chapel Cemetery.
