Doris Deloris Hall Scruggs – Obituary

dorisA Celebration of Life for Mrs. Doris Deloris Hall Scruggs, 65 of Decatur will be 2:00 pm, Saturday at United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer with Bishop Thomas D. Strong officiating and inhumation to follow in Dobbins Cemetery in Town Creek, Alabama.  The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to funeral with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Doris Deloris Hall Scruggs (DD), was born on May 31, 1949 in Montgomery, Alabama to Rosa Mae Irvin Williams and Marshall (Bill) Williams. She was a resident of Morgan County. Doris departed this life on February 8, 2015 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

Mrs. Scruggs had worked for Decatur City Schools as a health-room nurse for a several years. She loved working with the children and staff and did so with great joy and a loving smile.

She was a faithful and devoted member at the United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer where she served for over 35 years under the leadership of the late Bishop A. C. Strong and currently under the leadership of Bishop T. D. Strong.   She served faithfully on the usher board, taught Sunday school and was a mother of the church. She also served as a minister of the gospel under the leadership of the late Bishop A. C. Strong and was a faithful noon day prayer member. She believed in the power of prayer and giving God praise.  She loved to sing and one of her favorite hymns was “Don’t Stop, It’s Praying Time.” Mother Scruggs always greeted everyone with a warm-hearted and sweet smile.  She truly loved God and did not care who knew it, she would praise him anywhere.

She was preceded in death by:  her husband, Calven Nesby Scruggs, her son, Arthur Lee Scruggs; grandson, Ja’Colby La’Aaron Scruggs Garth; both parents, Marshall “Bill” Williams and Rosa Mae Irvin Williams; two brothers, Samuel Boyd and Arthur Lee Williams; her sisters, Shirley Jean Wood and Judy Hall Doris

She leaves a loving and lasting legacy to: her children,  Julius A. Russell (Vanessa) of Birmingham, AL, Carolyn Marie Scruggs, Samuel Delando (Erica) Scruggs, Kenneth Aaron (Jessica) Scruggs all of Decatur; Calvin Scruggs Jr. of Athens, TN and Charlotte Yvette Scruggs of Tampa, FL; one sister, Betty (Willie) Cotton of Montgomery, AL; four special daughters, Yolanda Yarbrough, Shunetta Garth Russell, Ronika Rice and Christine Wiggins all of Decatur; fourteen beautiful grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; three special friends, Brenda Pointer, Brenda Bumpus and Barbara Kay Tucker. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and will truly be missed.
